Lot Photo Description Realized
Lot 4963
1875, $1 United States Note. PCGS Gem New 65PPQ. . Fr-26. . KL-13. An exceptionally bold example, with the floral red overprint and treasury seal especially vivid, this piece is well margined with excellent centering for the grade. In fact, based on the face centering and margins alone it would likely grade even higher--it is held back only by the back centering which is just a trifle high. A lovely Gem example that is fully original and is worthy of a premium bid.
Estimated Value $2,400 - 2,600.

Lot 4964
1875, $1 United States Note. . Fr-26. . KL-13. PCGS graded Gem New 65 PPQ. A fresh, crisp Gem of this colorful style. In the early years, the Treasury department switched currency designs regularly: 1862, 1869, 1874, 1875, 1878, 1880, etc., with numerous sub-varieties in-between. The Series 1875 notes were actually printed in 1875-77, but unlike coin issues the actual date of issue doesn't appear on the note. Signature combination along with the Series date give a good estimation, however, as does the serial number sequence.
Estimated Value $2,400 - 2,600.

Lot 4984
1901, $10 United States Note. Mule. PCGS Gem New 65PPQ. . Fr-121. . KL-387. While Indian Chiefs, Black Eagles, and Woodchoppers from the same era are well known to exist in large quantities in Gem grade, a fact that will eventually be proven by the population reports from the major grading services when the bulk of these notes are eventually graded, Bisons are a legitimately scarce design type in Gem grade or finer. In fact, to date only 14 Bisons of all Fr. numbers in the series have graded 65PPQ, with only 27 higher with 67PPQ being the finest. With the current demand in today's market for high grade Gem quality type notes at an all-time high, the supply of this this ever-popular design does not nearly fill the demand. A beautiful note that is likely to see spiritied bidding before the hammer falls.
Estimated Value $12,000 - 15,000.
